Some candidates spot your job on a job board and want to apply right then and there, without clicking through to a full application form. That's an express application, and your Applicant Tracking System (ATS) supports it right out of the box.


The Allow express applications from job boards setting is enabled by default on every account. Here's what it does, what your applicants actually see, and how to turn it off (or back on) if you'd like.


What express applications do

When the setting is on, anyone who clicks your job posting from a job board that supports express applications gets a streamlined version of your application form. Fewer fields, faster finish, and less chance of someone wandering off halfway through.


What applicants see, board by board

  • Indeed: Indeed now pulls in your Form Builder questions, so candidates applying through an Indeed express application will see the custom questions you've built. You get the speed of an express application and the screening information you actually wanted.
  • Other boards, including ZipRecruiter and MyJobHelper: These still use the shortened form, so Form Builder questions and other custom application options aren't part of the express flow yet. We're actively working with our job board partners to expand what Indeed already supports.


Why we suggest leaving it on

  • It strengthens your ZipRecruiter and MyJobHelper listings. In fact, both require express applications to be enabled in order to run free job postings.
  • It removes friction, which generally means more applications from qualified candidates who might otherwise have bounced.
  • It makes applying genuinely easy, especially for the many candidates job hunting from their phone.

A couple of things to keep in mind

  • On boards that still use the shortened form, applicants may not realize they should attach a resume or cover letter, even if you've marked those as required on your full application.
  • If Form Builder questions are a big part of how you screen, it's worth knowing which boards currently pass them through (today, that's Indeed) so you know what to expect in each applicant's file.


How to turn express applications off

Heads up: Only users with Account Details permission can change account settings. Need a change but don't have the right permissions? Reach out to your company's Account Owner or another Admin level user. Not sure who your Account Owner is? Open a support ticket and we'll happily tell you.


1. Open your Account Details

  • From your ATS dashboard, click the menu icon in the upper right of your screen.
  • Select Account > Account Details from the main menu.


2. Go to Feature Management
  1. On the Account Details page, scroll down to the Customize & Design section.
  2. Click Feature Management.



3. Flip the switch
  • Scroll down to Allow express applications from job boards.
  • Toggle it on or off.



And that's the whole thing. Within 24 hours, job boards should have received the change and updated the job application process.
